Emergency Dentist

Your teeth can be damaged from an injury, or they may become infected and hurt. In these situations, you need to see an emergency dentist to get immediate treatment and keep yourself from enduring pain and discomfort.

When to visit an emergency dentist?

Whether you’re in need of extraction or you have broken your dentures, it’s important to know when to see an emergency dentist. While you may not enjoy visiting the dentist, especially when it comes to painful procedures like root canals, it’s necessary to ensure that your teeth remain healthy and strong for years to come and that your smile remains beautiful as well.

Oftentimes, when a tooth is knocked out or damaged to the point where it can’t be saved, patients need to seek emergency dental care as soon as possible to avoid infection or other complications. Many dentists offer same-day appointments for patients who need immediate treatment, so you shouldn’t have to wait long for treatment if you wake up with an unexpected problem.

Common dental emergencies

When a tooth is broken or lost in an accident, you certainly need emergency dental care. But there are other times when patients experience urgent dental problems that can’t wait. Here are a few examples:

  • A cracked tooth can cause pain every time you chew food. That’s an emergency!
  • Severe mouth pain is never normal. You don’t want to take chances with it. Make an urgent appointment.
  • Bleeding gums often indicate an infection that needs to be treated right away.
  • Loose teeth could fall out at any time. That’s a serious threat!
  • Swelling in your gums can indicate a serious infection or another problem that requires immediate attention.
  • Lost fillings and crowns certainly require attention as soon as possible.
  • If you knock out a permanent tooth, time is of the essence. Find a dentist who offers emergency dental services immediately.

What to expect during emergency treatment

If you’re experiencing tooth pain, it’s critical that you make an appointment with your emergency dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, avoid chewing on the affected side of your mouth to avoid aggravating the problem. Sometimes over-the-counter pain relievers can provide relief while you wait to be seen by your dentist.

Depending on the situation, we will provide the necessary treatment and also make sure that the bleeding, if any, is ceased at the earliest. In case you have a completely knocked-out tooth, make sure to bring it along, keeping it in a glass of milk. If you could reach us within an hour of the incident, we may be able to place the tooth back in the socket and allow it to reattach to the surrounding tissues.
